Frequently Asked Questions
How do I prepare for a wax?
Allow your hair to grow. Hair must be at least 1/4 of an inch long for an effective wax. This is typically at least 2-3 weeks after shaving. Long enough so you can grab the hair with your fingertips, not your fingernails. If your hair is too short, we will have to reschedule your appointment. If you are concerned your hair is too long, do not trim. Come with your grown out length, I will trim if absolutely needed. Come to your appointment with clean skin, wax sticks better to clean dry skin. I provide wipes if needed to refresh at your appointment. I recommend exfoliating every 2-3 days especially the night before your wax with a gentle scrub or mitt. Moisturizing everyday is important as well. Wear loose and comfortable fitted clothing.
How painful is waxing?
Pain tolerance tends to vary from person to person. Most will describe waxing as a quick but tolerable experience, especially after the first time. Being consistent with your waxes and aftercare is key to having the best results with the least amount of discomfort. Please do not apply numbing cream in the area, as this can impact the results of your wax. If you are worried about pain, avoid caffeine, advil, and alcohol prior to your appointment. You can take an Ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment also if needed I have stress balls available in the studio.
What type of wax do you use?
I use a hypoallergenic hard wax for facial and body waxing. Hard wax does not require any strips or paper to be removed. Hard wax adheres to the hair and not the skin, making it less painful and irritating.
What can I expect after my wax?
Immediately after a wax, redness, mild swelling, tenderness, small bumps and sensitivity are normal and subside within 24-48hrs. For the first 24-48 hours, you want to avoid any excessive heat such as hot showers, baths, saunas and steam rooms. You also want to avoid workouts, sweating, tight clothes and friction-heavy activities such as intercourse (after a brazilian). You also want to stay away from any sun exposure, tanning beds, or harsh skincare or exfoliants on freshly waxed skin for the first 48 hours. Following aftercare is extremely important and will help prevent any breakouts, adverse reactions or ingrowns. After 48 hours you want to make sure you are exfoliating 2-3 times a week and moisturizing daily. We will go over aftercare during your appointment. If irritation persists 48 hours after your appointment please text (631)-741-1777
Who is not a candidate for waxing?
Certain medications- if you are taking Accutane, Differin, Retin-A, or any prescription acne medication as well as antibiotics, steroids, blood thinners, or autoimmune medications. Consult with a doctor if you’re unsure.
If you have diabetes and are insulin dependent, you must have a written release from your physician stating that it is safe for you to receive waxing services.
Sunburned or freshly tanned skin
Any areas with active infections, flare ups, rashes, cuts or sores. I only wax over healthy skin
If you do not have an active herpes or MRSA outbreak, you may be waxed. However, be aware that waxing can trigger an outbreak in someone who has already had the virus, even if it is dormant. If you have an active outbreak, you may not be waxed as it can spread to other areas.
Varicose veins (if it applies to the area being waxed)
For facial waxing you must avoid any active ingredients on your face for at least 7 days prior to your wax. This applies to any facial treatments you have had done as well. You must wait two weeks after any botox or fillers.
Can I get waxed while pregnant?
Yes! I have an adjustable bed to ensure the most comfortable experience for my expecting mothers. Note that sensitivity may be increased due to pregnancy.
Can I get waxed on my period?
Yes! As long as you have a fresh tampon in. I have tampons and feminine wipes at my studio if needed. Note that your period may increase sensitivity during your wax.
How long can I expect to be smooth?
Due to our different hair growth cycles, it varies. Most clients experience smoothness for about two weeks, then are ready to wax again by four weeks. For underarms and facial waxing, clients typically wax every 2-4 weeks. For all other areas of the body, anywhere from 4-6 weeks is typical. After a first wax, it is normal to have stubble left over as it does take about 3-5 consistent waxes to get hair on the same growth cycle which typically results in a longer period of smoothness. Expect hair to grow back softer, thinner, and more sparse!
What payment methods do you accept?
I accept cash, zelle, apple pay and major credit and debit cards. Please note that there is a small processing fee when paying with a card.
